Tutoring and Academic Support

Yale undergraduates have access to a robust system of support and advice, in the form of tutors sponsored by residential colleges, academic departments, or the Yale College Dean’s Office, as well as a variety of subject-focused centers and programs.


Saybrook Writing Tutor:

Whitney Rakich is the residential writing tutor for Saybrook College. Head of College Near prefers to call her Saybrook’s writing coach. She holds a PhD in American Studies (University of New Mexico), an MA in Spanish (University of New Mexico), and a BA in Iberian Literature and Fiction Writing (Northwestern University). She is a writer of short and long fiction. Her office is located in Saybrook P-11, and she can be reached at whitney.rakich@yale.edu or you can make an appointment with Whitney at www.yalewco.com.
Bring her anything from brainstorms to drafts to polished manuscripts… All writers can benefit from an extra pair of eyes on their work!


Saybrook Mathematics and Science Tutor:

Mikhail Askerka received his Masters Degree from the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University in Russian Federation. He then joined the Department of Chemistry of Yale University to pursue a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry. He is currently working on elucidating a water oxidation mechanism in Photosystem II and developing new methods for describing vibrational relaxation of molecules on surfaces.  His office is located in Saybrook P-11, and hours for the Fall 2016 semester are Sundays from 7-10pm and Thursdays from 8-10pm.  Mikhail can be reached at mikhail.askerka@yale.edu
