April 22nd, 2019

  • Head of College

    • We’re in the homestretch! It’s overwhelming that this is our last SCC meeting :(

    • Thank you all for your participation! And thank you to our lovely first-year class for joining the ranks! :)

    • We might not have had superlatives, but we avoided controversy.

    • “There’s nothing wrong with being average.” - Prof near

    • It has been great working with Dean Lafargue this year! He is truly embedded in our community now, and there is no going back.

    • Sad to see those graduating go, even  though there are no seniors present at this meeting.

    • Looking forward to working with all of you next year

    • Special shoutout to our SAC chairs, who crushed it this semester

    • Study breaks are coming!

  • Dean’s Report

    • Friday at 5pm is the last day to drop classes. See Dean Lafargue ASAP if you are having problems with (a) professor(s) or (a) class(es).

    • Reach out to Dean Lafargue or Cissy if his office hours don’t work for you

  • SAC

    • Thanks for coming to Semi Formal!

    • Planning a study break for this week. It will likely be sushi due to popular demand, so look out for an email!

    • There won’t be an event during reading week to leave that open for the fellows’ event.

    • Thanks for a good semester!

  • Community Service

    • Sign up to donate your meal swipes for the YHHAP Fast this Friday the 26th

    • Last day for donating in the clothing bins in the laundry room is this Friday at noon

  • By-Laws

    • Did you know?: Dave submitted his thesis yesterday! Hooray!

    • There will be a vacancy for this position soon, aka immediately after this meeting.

  • Media

    • Will post pics from semi formal!

  • Fischer Report

    • A plea to treat your facilities right as the year winds down

    • You’ve made it this far without breaking stuff, but if you do, remember to call facilities

    • the end

  • SayQueer

    • Kathya will be the next president of SayQueer!

  • Slaydies

    • Whoops is playing right now! Stay great!

  • BlackBrook

    • Will be having another Sandra’s dinner this week

    • Some of us will be seeing US, then we’ll be watching Beyonce’s Homecoming in the TV room

  • College Seminar

    • Nothing to report

    • Congrats on your thesis @Dave!

  • Dining hall

    • Donate your meal swipe for this Friday

    • Take the Yale dining survey if you’re yet to

    • There’s A Taste of the Mediterranean Event being hosted by Yale Hospitality at Yale on York this Wednesday at 6:15. There are some impressive guests, including Paul Friedman (Yale Professor of history), Amy Rolo (Award winning author, chef, educator, and Mediterranean Lifestyle Ambassador), and Aristos Constantine, who is notably the Trade Commissioner of the Republic of Cypress. Some pretty impressive people.

      • POI: The survey for this was sent out at 12, but it is already full!

        • POI: (Mariel) Filled out the registration at 12:08 and got placed on the waitlist. There are some high stakes for these events.

      • POI: Will there be ancient grains at this event?

        • Unsure, but if you get in you might be pleasantly surprised

    • POI: Onions in the salad bar?

      • Joey will email, but you can also put it in the dining hall survey

    • POI + POI: The scrambled eggs at brunch have dairy in them. This normally isn’t a problem for lactose free people since we typically have boiled eggs, but that doesn’t happen during brunch sometimes. Would love if this could be as consistent as it is for breakfast. Would also love if the boiled eggs could be warm.

      • POI: This is one of the best things John has ever said in these meetings

    • Yale dining will be serving dinner on Old Campus for Spring Fling

      • POI: will there be snacks before?

        • Yes, in the SY courtyard

          • The snacks are from the CCEs

  • Housing

    • There will be a BAR pizza event in appreciation of all y’all at some point next week

  • Sustainability

    • Danielle was hired as the new Sustainability Rep, so there are good things to come!

  • IMs

    • Slaydies won against Morse

      • Massive applause

    • There was a buzzerbeater by Skylar Reagan

    • Soccer playoffs, ultimate frisbee, and spikeball are left. All of these are elimination / playoff games

    • Tight with Hopper in the standing, but if we win everything we should be good

    • POI: Bowling scores have not been updated in the rankings

      • When Prof Near notified the person in charge of points about this, she responded,“My bad, I guess I’ll get them to the office sometime this week.”

        • Bowling ended in February

      • Hopper never shows up to bowling. Last year we had over 150 points from it, and Hopper had 0. So, we should have a better lead

      • Honestly, it’s disrespectful that the scores aren’t up yet

    • Need the Tyng to have a party before reading week

      • POI: At Florian?

  • Saybrew

    • Sorry we didn’t serve at nonexistent Saye and Sele Day

    • Catch us during senior week

    • Maybe will have a no alcohol study break?

    • POI: Can you serve as Spring Fling?

      • Normally don’t because it’s hard to manage who’s drinking that day and also out of respect to Saybrook Brew Kings

  • SYHSC

    • Proposal to be moved up in the minutes, again.

      • Tabled

        • Seconded

        • New Business for next year

    • Got this fact from the Yale archives: The first SY Head of College tutored an 11 year old kid in Vandy, who eventually became the first governor of Rhode Island

    • POI: These dates seem suspicious to people

      • Could’ve been a mix up, but it was there!

    • POI: From sterling?

      • Online

    • POI: John raises hands

      • SYSC is taking no further questions

    • POI: Turns out he wasn’t the first governor,  just A governor

  • YCC

    • Chase Finney and Nick Randos are our new senators. Hopefully they show up next semester. Grace Kang is the new VP!

    • POI: Do they know to come to these meetings?

      • Yes?

  • Old Business

    • None!

  • Treasurer’s Report

    • If you have remaining money, don’t spend it. We can reallocate it! Reach out to Mariel  Barocas now or through email / another method of communication about this. The money could also be put towards the SY Spring Fling thing

  • New Business

    • POI: There is an official SY event committee, the E12 conglomerate, that had a music event last weekend. They brought in Hero and TOIL, a jazz/funk group, and it was super successful! They’re having another event next Sunday. Alcohol is only for those over 21, and we will NOT be serving alcohol

      • We’re (We = the SY College Council) well aware of who they are

    • POI: Let’s prank the new Senators by sending out an email next Monday saying that they will be guest speaking

      • POI: Isn’t this our last meeting?

        • Exactly

    • POI: (from John) Would the CCEs like to throw an event the morning of Spring Fling so we can have muffins?

      • POI: They’re throwing one already on Cross Campus from 1-5

      • POI: Don’t really have funding, but theoretically could reallocate SY funds and make it a SAC event

    • POI: John, just buy a muffin

      • He’s out the door at 8

    • Motion to adjourn
