December 3rd, 2019

  • Head of College

    • What an uneventful game (Harvard/Yale) that was…jk. Happy everyone had a good time and was able to express themselves across the board. Was proud as a HOC and Yalie to see people doing their thing during half time and the 3rd quarter

    • Mellon Forum on Tuesday

    • Holiday Saylebration on Friday

    • Yale Hospitality’s Holiday Dinner is on Saturday for SY. First-years will be at Yale on York and need to get a ticket for the big first year feast. It’ll be in SY from sophomores-seniors

    • Multi-college Yule Ball was an effort that Roger and Alex put a lot of work into, but unfortunately, the plug got pulled today because of the security costs which are necessary whenever anything happens college wide

  • Dean’s Report

    • Cissy’s back!!! Drop by and say hello

    • Friday is the last day of classes, so withdraw if you need to. Will have a W, but just means you withdrew after 10/25

  • SAC

    • As Prof Near mentioned, there’ll be the Saylebration on Friday from 9-11. Will start in dining hall with live music, hot chocolate, cupcake decorations, crafting, and Saybrew. Then, weather permitting, there will be s’mores outside!

    • Last Amigos night of the semester on Wednesday! Fill out the form :)

  • Community Service

    • Donate clothes and take the job, especially as we’re going into the second semester. We need more first-years and underclassmen so reach out if you know anyone else

    • Mikayla is stepping up! Potentiually. Will think about it over break

  • By-Laws

    • Did you know: There are 9 standing committees in SY. One more to get to 10. Something to strive for.

  • Media

    • It was a big weekend. A Sports Illustrated photographer took a picture of the SY strip, which we reposted and it got our most likes ever.  @saybrookcollege.

    • They follow for follow for Saybrugians

    • POI (from Prof Near): Going back to the Saylebration, there will be an ugly sweater contest. Not calling Sam’s sweater ugly but… it should be worn then. It’s called lobbying

  • Fischer Report

    • Don’t break things, but if you do please call facilities

  • SayQueer

    • Nothing to report

  • SlaYdies

    • Doing a brunch and a baking night before the end of the semester, so stay posted for that

    • Lil, Jes, and Bailey started a Yale org called Bread. They’re having a debut event here in SY on Monday from 1-3 called Bread and Friends and Spreads ;) There will be sooo much bread and SlaYdies is making jam for it.

  • BlackBrook

    • Nothing to report. Need to meet with Kelsey and Kelsey

  • Housing

    • You are housed

    • Shortly after coming back the housing committee will meet and you’ll have a couple months to start preparing for the housing lottery. Take your time. Be nice to your suitemates. Make friends.

    • Look out for another brew session after break

  • SYHSC

    • We all know what the SY coat of arms looks like (being demonstrated well by Roger right now), what you might not know though, is how the SY badge looks! It is a grapevine, which was taken from the seal of SY back in the 1700s.

    • POI: That’s why graduating seniors wear grapes on their caps

    • POI: Concept. Trip to Old SY?

  • YCC

    • Distribution of menstrual products has been secured for another semester

  • Sustainability

    • Will be doing an LED light bulb exchange sometime this week for personal lights like lamps but not the overhead ones. LEDs use 75% less electricity and last 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs. Getting the bulbs for free from the Yale Office of Sustainability

    • POI: Are any of the lights warm or are they all cool?

      • Unsure, will be a wait and see scenario

    • Almost 100 people filled out the November energy saving survey! Winners will be notified shortly

    • POI: Where is Sustainability office?

      • Whitney near Katalina’s, but you don’t have to go there to get the bulbs! Danielle is bringing them all over and your SYstainablility rep will drop off the number you ask for to your suite. A very convenient, easy switch!

  • Old Business

    • Interest in being in touch with the YUAG about types of portraits that could be in the SY dining hall to diversify the walls.

      • Sam met with Micah about it, who’ll talk more extensively about it with Prof Near.

      • Bouchet portrait was an easy effort to break through the surface to allow a narrative to emerge. Was in a sense, low-hanging grapes. If we wanted to push forward and find more stories that should be told in our space, we have the agency to seek out funding for that. Can tap into alumni network. Even with the , okay boomers forward, this project would resonate. Could get a decent portrait for around $10,000 if we found a really good story it could happen. Need to be proactive

    • POI: In addition to commissioning new portraits, talked about transferring with YUAG, Is that possible?

      • YUAG is reluctant to bring stuff in the colleges that aren’t already there even though they have warehouses full of portraits not in use because something they might not value today could be of value in the future, but we could still try to pursue it

      • Stuff we currently have is grandpersoned in

    • POI: Is there still interest in this to solidify it and provide substance?

      • Maybe a low commitment committee that meets once every couple weeks to make it an ongoing conversation.

      • POI: Could make it a standing committee to be formed next semester to keep the momentum going so they report at meetings. Could get to Roger’s 10 committees

      • Hit the ground running in January. Keep this in mind. Sam can start talking to people who have expressed interest

      • POI: Is there an opportunity for student art to be incorporated?

        • Yes, but it would have to be wall-worthy.

  • Treasurer’s Report

    • $0.00 in the rolling fund and if you’re yet to use money, let Micah know

  • New Business

    • None

  • Motion to adjourn?

    • Seconded
