February 11th, 2019

  • Head of College

    • There’s more light in the Saybrary now! We wired up the lamp and got new bulbs.

    • Still making plans for the gift of redoing the Saybrary. The problem is that the benefactor wants big plans like taking out a wall, which will be more time-consuming….but our children will enjoy it!

  • Dean’s Report

    • Read your email from Dean Lafargue!

    • Look out for more housing info later this week

    • POI: When is the credit/d deadline?

      • March 8th for a full term course, deadline was last week for half term courses

  • SAC

    • Pre-Valentoads Amigos Night! <3

    • You all should’ve received the email about it, so sign up on the google form! Get excited!

  • Community Service

    • Keep donating clothes

    • Now have free menstrual products in all residential colleges

    • We did a one week trial period of period donation products, which we might restart

    • Registration for the 15th Annual AIDS Walk New Haven is live now! Sign up @aidswalknewhaven.org

    • POI: Where are the period products in Saybrook currently?

      • Laundry room, gender neutral restrooms outside of the common room, Dean’s offices, and Head’s offices

  • By-Laws

    • Did you know that normally only first-years, sophomores, and juniors are allowed to run for SAC, but…if a SAC chair resigns/is pushed out, a senior is allowed to run in their stead? Special election!

    • POI: Does “push out” mean to make resign or to physically get pushed off the couch?

      • The former

  • Media

    • Great posts recently

    • Check out the boomerang of baklava on the story, notably featuring Alex’s hand

    • Submit skiing photos (can DM them), so we can make a montage extravaganza!

    • POI: There was a photo of Saybrook at the IRIS Run posted on the yale admissions instagram (@yaleadmissions)

  • Fischer Report

    • Don’t break things, but  if you do report it!

    • Saybrary lighting problem fixed

    • POI: Appreciation of the white lights! No longer falling asleep like with the yellow ones

  • SayQueer

    • Stay tuned for a SayQueer/BlackBrook event! Potentially brunch?

  • Slaydies

    • At Whoops right now

    • Keep Slaying!

  • BlackBrook

    • Planning the aforementioned event with SayQueer

    • Also planning a collaboration with Cissy about the history of Black Saybrugians

    • Kai is the VP

    • Unfortunately did not get to go to “If Beale Street Could Talk,” but we had a great dinner on Sunday and brainstormed plans for the semester! Potentially Roller Skating

    • POI: Our proposal to fund the Bouchet portrait was accepted. There will be some pop up art things, and it will make a phenomenal addition to Saybrook dining hall! Don’t have to invent history, just break the surface and allow the narrative to come through. For what it was worth, relatively easy to do that. We have an entryway named after Bouchet. With more work, we can find more substantive stories about Saybrook and Yale!

  • College Seminar

    • Hear they’re planning a great dinner for people who helped with 5 interviews.

    • It will be before the end of the semester probably. Faith in Dave!

  • Dining hall

    • Koomson Report: N/A

    • There will be sophomore dinner soon at 150 York (the same location as the First-Year Holiday Dinner)

    • POI: The diner was lit last year, so go!

    • POI: Current seniors didn’t have one of those. Salty.

    • POI: Concern about how the workforce is streamlined in the SY Dining Hall. One problem is with the high demand but lack of ability to prepare the grab and go breakfast sandwiches, but it also expands beyond this to other structural / managerial complaints.

    • POI: Prof Near requests for cucumbers in the salad bar since we haven’t had them in a while. Even middle of nowhere TD has cucumbers.

    • POI: Also, strongly-supported request for feta cheese.

    • POI: Lunch today was great. Thanks Joey

    • Keep going to lunch at SY so we don’t get those privileges provoked

  • Housing

    • Pay attention for an email coming out this week

  • Sustainability

    • Having a meeting either this Thursday or next Thursday (gotta check the gcal) with Sabrina from the Pay As You Throw Program

    • Read tomorrow’s email from Micah regarding SY’s participation in the program

  • IMs

    • 5 women of Slaydies at Whoops currently, would be amazing if more could go

    • A Hoops had a forfeit win

    • Pay attention to IMs emails

    • People should come to bowling! There are 2 more games, including this Friday.

      • This week’s opponents are Branford, Berkeley, and Ben Frank….not a real competition, so come next week

    • POI: Are there hot wings at bowling, and are they fatty?

      • They are free

  • Saybrew

    • Met with a beekeeping group on campus who wants to give us 4 pounds of honey to brew mead with

    • Might have a mead serving / how we made this mead pop up

    • POI jinx: “Might you call that a mead and greet?”

    • POI: Did you know Dylan Sprouse has a meadery in Brooklyn?

      • “He calls himself the meadmaster, so it’s f*in lit”

    • Come brew before the end of the semester! Last time it didn’t take too long (about 2 hours,) and there were lots of donuts and fun

  • SYHSC

    • Saybrook Black History Month collab with BlackBrook

    • Hopefully will be last creepy than the last talk

    • Fun fact: the land on which Yale once stood in Saybrook, CT has now become the Cypress Cemetery

    • POI: Did they move the bodies first?

      • Listen more carefully

  • YCC

    • Check your email about free menstrual products in the colleges!

    • POI: Is there a reason they’re in the college office and not in the downstairs bathrooms?

      • Not in downstairs bathroom because there’s a requirement that the bathrooms they’re in be gender neutral. The number up here are limited because of vandalism.

    • POI: Can we have more products in the laundry room?

      • Will monitor where more are needed and adjust accordingly as time progresses

    • POI: Lil Uzi Vert is 5’3”

  • Old Business

    • Tsai City’s Chun Challenge for Change to increase Innovation is still a potential threat to our IM standings. They threw around the idea of part of the prize being a LOT of points, enough to make everything else worthless. The number heard was 1,000 but this is very outlandish and came from people who clearly knew nothing of IMs. Hopefully it’s a more realistic number

    • POI: They could improve the name of that challenge

    • POI: Alex elected to inquire more / send an email about the Tyng stuff

  • Treasurer’s Report

    • $0.00 in the rolling fund

  • New Business

    • Talking with Micah about having a SY watch party for the final episode of the Bachelor

    • What happened to the junior prom that used to happen?

      • Money for this might be in the junior budget? If not there, it’s somewhere and can totally happen!

    • POI: The AAU 2019 Campus Sexual Climate Survey is still live (open until March 4th). You’ll be getting another email about it tomorrow, so please complete them! They’re confidential and an opportunity for you to be heard!
