March 25th, 2019

  • Head of College

    • “Welcome back.” We’re in the home stretch!

  • Dean’s Report

    • Check the email Dean Lafargue sent out earlier today.

    • “Housing, housing, and more housing.”

    • POI: Dean Lafargue has a NICE haircut

    • Try to have someone from your suite present during open housing. Rising sophomores go first on Wednesday, followed by rising seniors on Thursday, then rising juniors on next Tuesday.

    • First-years, if you are currently in a sextet, they are currently oversubscribed and one group will need to reconfigure into a quint, ideally before tomorrow at noon otherwise the computer will randomly choose one of the groups. Your leaders were alerted.

    • POI: How many quints are being taken over by sophomores?

      • 5

    • POI: (from John) Would it be too much if I live streamed the housing process for first-years?

      • Seems like a media question

      • You could but 70% of the drama is done

  • SAC

    • Tentative semi-formal date is April 19th. Unfortunately, it is the first day of Passover, but it is the only night that we can be accomodated. It will begin at 10:30, so hopefully anyone practicing on campus will be done by then. Apologies to anyone traveling.

    • POI: What night is this?

      • A Friday.

        • Maybe look into having events during reading period when more people are free and it is cheaper.

          • We aren’t allowed to hold events during reading period.

  • Community Service

    • Read your Dwight Hall newsletters

  • By-Laws

    • Did you know? The housing committee is not a constitutional committee because it is not in the constitution

    • POI: Is it unconstitutional?

      • Nonconstitutional

  • Media

    • Send Jazzie or DM the instagram with pictures and like their posts!

  • Fischer Report

    • Hope you closed your windows over break

    • Please fill out Micah’s form from right before break about potential renovations for SY

    • POI: Warmer lighting in the Saybrary?

      • Previously, there was a complaint that the lighting was causing people to fall asleep, which is why the LED lighting was put up. Maybe we can find a warm color that is not aesthetically displeasing/unpleasing?

        • Yellow LED lights exist!

  • SayQueer

    • Thinking of having the Moonlight thing on April 8th. Reaching out to Prof Near about the dates.

  • Slaydies

    • Keep slaying!

    • In the Whoops playoff!

  • BlackBrook

    • “We’ll be doing a screenlight of Mooning.” - Kai

      • Ummm….Moonlight

    • POI: Do a screening of “Us” in the theater!

    • POI: Is anyone at Yale working on Black Thor / Black SciFi? Huge new burgeoning field.

    • POI: “Let’s get Jordan Peele to come. Is he affiliated with Yale?” - Mariel

  • College Seminar

    • Has been decided! It is the Business of Venture Capital by Jorge Torres

    • Will have the celebratory dinner sometime before the semester ends

  • Dining hall

    • Not too many dining hall announcements besides that late night dining is continuing throughout the year.

      • POI: Late night dining at Slifka is actually only continuing for two weeks. When it ends Slifka will be open for dinner until 7.

    • POI: The current dining hall situation in SY is only temporary because we’re having a new painting reveal on Thursday.

      • Out of the current two pairs up, one pair is randos from the Yale art gallery and the other is family.

      • This revealing is of Prof Near’s predecessor Paul Hudak who died in office. He was an IM beast, a great athlete, a computer genius, and a great storyteller. He gave it his whole. We commissioned his portrait with his wife. It’s the same person who did the portrait of the previous TD head. This is important because it’s documenting the history of service within the college.

      • POI: Is there a set time?

        • It’s during the Fellow’s Night

        • People will have to eat elsewhere, but feel free to reconstruct the long table in Branford. It wouldn’t be the first time.

          • A little awkward now because the juniors don’t know where to sit.

      • POI: First-years sat at junior table today and John was upset

  • Housing

    • Pretty much covered it all previously

  • Sustainability

    • Micah and Alex just got the data for February and will look it over and release it!

  • IMs

    • Forfeit win in both AHoops and Dodgeball tonight

    • A lot is happening with IMs! Basketball is in the playoffs, and the spring IMs are spikeball, indoor soccer, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, badminton, and there will be a golf tournament

    • Hopper is on our tails! We’re separated by less than 5% of the total points. They’re angry. It can be motivating. So, we have to show up to win!

    • POI: “Only 59.2% of you opened my email today.” - Prof Near

      • “At your 10 year reunion all of you complaining about my IM emails will be proud of our back to back championships.”

      • “I’m feeling it again.” It’s been a long winter

      • “DYNASTY.” Few colleges are able to claim that.

  • Saybrew

    • No updates from Sam

  • SYHSC

    • Saybrook was founded in 1933

  • YCC

    • A lot of emails today! Give them a read.

    • POI: Our own Grace King is running for VP of YCC with Khalil Greene if you know him. Support them!

  • Old Business

    • Gear update, Chung Challenge for Change is no longer giving out Tyng Cup points, Jazzy and Sam are appointed heads of the new temporary committee for Junior Prom, and we won the Yale Basketball Ivy League Tournament.

  • Treasurer’s Report

    • $0.00 in the rolling business.

  • New Business

    • POI: $70 can buy A LOT of McDonald’s. Roger’s spending is going unchecked.
