Saybrook 2024-25 FroCos

The First Year Counselors, or FroCos, all of them Saybrook seniors, play a special role in the college. Together with the Dean, they counsel and advise first-year students, living near them on campus and providing them with academic and personal counseling during the first year. In addition to bringing an important peer perspective to their roles, the FroCos receive special training in helping students adapt to college life.

Head FroCo - Risha Chakraborty

Shankara Abbineni (He/Him)

Although Shankara was born in India, his family immigrated to Connecticut when he was just a year old. Shankara has had a number of academic and career interests (at one point in his childhood, he wanted to be a car designer and spent months practicing drawing cars). Ultimately, he found that he loved tinkering with computers and thinking about how new technology drives change. At Yale, Shankara is double-majoring in Statistics & Data Science and Economics—a combination that satisfies his problem-solving and inquisitive nature. He’s also a researcher at the Yale NLP Lab, where he’s currently working on building language models that better understand scientific domains, potentially accelerating research in fields such as biology and quantum physics. He serves as the Treasurer of the GeoTech Initiative, a student organization dedicated to understanding the intersection of geopolitics and technology. Beyond academics, Shankara is an avid fan of cricket, football, and Formula 1. In his free time, you might find him playing the piano, reading, or having a dangerous amount of fun with his friends. Shankara is incredibly excited to help out new Saybrugians, so feel free to reach out to him with any questions regarding Saybrook or Yale!

Sam Detor

Sam Detor

Sam is a proud Saybrook senior from Wayzata, Minnesota majoring in Computer Science. Outside of the classroom, she gives STEM tours for the admissions office and plays on the women’s club water polo team. In her free time, Sam likes watching New Girl, listening to NPR’s Embedded podcast, and doing puzzles. Sam is super excited to be a Froco and very grateful to get to share the magic of Saybrook with the first-years!

Fawzaan Hashmi

Nasra Hassan (she/her)

Nasra is proudly from two of the best places in the world: the beautiful nation of Somalia, and America’s Finest City San Diego, California. Now on the East Coast, Nasra studies Architecture with a concentration in History, Theory, and Criticism, in addition to a certificate in Education Studies. Outside of history surveys and studio class, you can find Nasra with the Questbridge Scholars Chapter (in general, first-generation low-income community at large), Muslim Student Association, Matriculate, the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, or at any one of her work study student jobs as an assistant with New Haven Public Schools classrooms, the Connecticut Children’s Museum, and the Gilder Lehrman Center. Nasra spent this past summer interning with a nonprofit applying for funding in support of community-led urban development projects (maybe this will help her with her senior thesis…). Fun fact: Nasra’s career as a working woman began in Saybrook’s very own buttery the Squiche! When Nasra finds free time, she enjoys gardening, volunteering with Dwight Hall, and strolling through Wooster Square Park. Contrary to what the other Saybrook FroCos say, Nasra is *the most* excited out of all of them to be supporting the Saybrook Class of 2028!

Rolando Kattan Rubi

Rolando Kattan Rubi

Rolando Kattan Rubi, born and raised in Tegucigalpa, is double majoring in Political Science and Comparative Literature, focusing his studies on Thomas Hobbes’ concept of political representation. He served as president of the Yale International Relations Association, the largest student organization at Yale. During his term, he led the efforts to start five new international conferences, doubling the organization’s global impact, profit margin, and total financial aid awarded to students worldwide. In 2023, he was granted the Davis Project for Peace Fellowship, a fund he capitalized on to successfully advance a bill seeking to expand menstrual rights in the Honduran Congress. Rolando has worked for several multilateral bodies, including the United Nations, the United Nations Development Program, and the Organization of American States’ Peace Mission in Colombia.

Callie Krueger

Callie Krueger

Callie, class of ‘25, is from rural Wisconsin and likes to make it her whole personality. She plans to major in EVST and/or ENVE, and pursue a Spanish certificate. When not in the SY College Office, you’ll find her on the courts in Lanman, the rugby pitch, the Stiles basement with the Common Closet crew, basking in the sun, or anywhere that has food/books. She can’t decide if she’s a coffee or tea person, and is definitely a music enthusiast. She doesn’t have a favorite ice cream flavor because she is well-cultured and appreciative when it comes to ice cream, contrary to most other food groups.
