November 4th, 2019

    • Head of College

      • The seminar committee dinner is on Wednesday

      • Had dinner with Vandy D41 because they were the winners of the SYstainability draw from the people who completed the October break room checklist

    • Dean’s Report

      • Cissy won’t be back until after Thanksgiving. She is recovering well! It’s just longer

    • SAC

      • Stay tuned for Harvard/Yale tailgate info

      • Great HalloAmigos night!

    • Community Service

      • Donate clothes and take the job please

    • By-Laws

      • Did you know?: The by-laws committee has the sole power to determine whether something amended to the Constitution is constitutional or not. If no one joins this committee, it’s all Roger’s decision.

    • Media

      • Posted a pumpkin picture, it got big time likes. Portrait mode.

      • Stay tuned and send them stuff! They’ll tag you

    • Fischer Report

      • Word on the street is that people are disappointed with the laundry room technology

      • Dean Lafargue checked and there have been no formal complaints from SY. So do that if you want them to know

      • POI: If you’re able to do laundry, but think it’s just an impractical system, how would you go about that?

        • Grassroots organization

      • POI: If you download the app, it is significantly easier and goes smoothly. Can also  monitor when your laundry is done through the app.

        • POI: Worked perfectly the first few times then lost money from the app because it would load for hours then charge.

          • Seconded

          • Also problem because sometimes app thinks that washers are running when they aren’t so you can’t use them

      • POI: Is there a public advocate for students for things like this?

        • Difficult because it is facilities but also college by college

      • Could collect everyone’s experience with the machine by filling out a form where people list their grievances to take the first step

      • POI: Contractor on campus that handles the washer machines. If you do submit something, there’s a phone number on the machines. Report stuff. Some students from other colleges have  done this but we haven’t, which is why they aren’t fixing our stuff

      • Point of humor from Prof Near: When it comes to laundry,  we’re just cool

    • SayQueer

      • Nothing to report

    • SlaYdies

      • Jes is having an open stage night. Going to use part of our budget to get snacks for that and advertise it to SlaYdies!

    • BlackBrook

      • Planning to watch “Do the Right Thing,” hopefully before Thanksgiving break

    • College Seminar

      • Dinner this Wednesday as stated by Prof Near

    • Dining hall

      • Yale bakery holiday pies are back IF you need festive baked goods. 8 options. Can order on the Yale Dining app

      • Koomson Report

        • Jane had the gumbo and chicken fajitas in SY for dinner

    • Housing

      • Housed and happy

      • POI:Why is entryway K broken into more often?

        • Challenge is thinking about your safety without imposing. Do small things like locking your doors and noticing who is following you into an  entryway. K is closer to gates. New cameras there now.

      • POI: YDN article suggesting someone has broken into SY and Vandy in the last 2 weeks, which is not true. Separate events this year and last. Fix accuracy

    • Sustainability

      • Hopefully planting bulbs will be Friday 12:30-3:30. Just need to make sure the plants can get here on time. Waiting to hear back from Joe from landscape about it, although the email already went out.

      • Happy Meatless Monday! Has gone super well and will continue over the semester. It’s about thinking about the food you’re eating and considering the environmental impact. Reducing meat consumption not vegetarian conversion.

      • Keep using reusable bags in college office

      • POI:  Is it possible to get together with the dining hall to make sure there is always a main vegetarian dish on Mondays?

        • Always technically a vegetarian option although it may not be ideal

        • Movements to expand this

      • POI: Slifka almost always has great vegan and vegetarian options!

    • IMs

      • #2 seed for volleyball! Playing Murray tomorrow who will come hard because they beat us in ping pong and think they’re better than us, which is wrong.

      • Cruising. We’re really good in these sports

      • POI: Is Eddie still here?

        • Yes

    • Saybrew

      • Beer is doing well as are the syder and seltzer. Look forward to them at the winter Saylebration

      • General, but make sure to clean the kitchen since it hasn’t been recently. Respect Saybrew shelves and fridge.

      • POI: Especially the boxed freezer.  Don’t open because of the CO2. Things are heavily fermenting in there

    • SYHSC

      • SY once had two towering Elm trees with one in each courtyard. However in the over 150 year old one in SY courtyard died in 1977 from Dutch Elm disease, and the Killingworth one died in 1985 from Hurricane Gloria.

    • YCC

      • Nick was assigned to two new projects - mental health resources and leave of absences. If any of you have an interest in either/both of these, bring him your input!

    • Old Business

      • Vandy fire drilled just happened

    • Treasurer’s Report

      • $0.00 in the rolling fund

    • New Business

      • Tomorrow SY Chaplaincy Fellows are having an event in the dining hall 7-9. You can make trail mix and/or write a nice note for someone because it is the week of gratitude!

      • POI: Would use Saybrary more if lights weren’t as cold. Appreciates that they are fixed, but looks like a gym or a morgue.

        • Office just ordered some warmer lights

      • POI: Go get your flu shot! It’s free at Yale Health! The times were listed in an email and are on bulletin boards in SY. CVS might even give them for free and give a $5 off a $20 coupon

    • Motion to adjourn?

      • Seconded
