  • Meet the SY College Council Executive Committee

    • Welcome to the first meeting of the year!!! *Applause*

    • Student Activities Committee aka SAC - Sarah Force’21 and Jesse Nadel’21

      • A package deal / co-chairs 

      • They very notably plan Amigos!! And other events like formals 

    • Secretary - Donasia Gray’22 

      • I write the minutes and will attempt to make them as entertaining as they are irl 

      • Also keep track of attendance, so please make sure to sign in at the beginning of meetings! It’s important for things like determining who can vote on different matters, principally the budget

    • Treasurer - Mariel Barocas’21

    • Vice President - Roger McNamee’20

      • Makes witty one liners throughout the meeting, mostly to Alex 

      • Gets food! 

      • Also, keeps parliamentary order! …. Speaking of, John is out of order

    • President - Alex Lusak’20

      • Debuted in SCC in first-year and always looked forward to the presidency! Ready to give back to the best res college

  • Head of College 

    • Welcome back to the swing of things with the new academic year

    • TYNG FLING on Saturday 3-5 in Stone Courtyard!! 

      • The hype has been real - Roger

      • To celebrate our consecutive victories and the threepeat that is to come 

      • There will be lawn games, food, beer for those over 21, a musical performance by Billy Boat at 4, and the Tyng Cup!!

      • Afterwards, themed dinner in the dining hall and an afterparty at night in the 12 pack 

      • Good weather predicted by VP, so don’t miss it! 

    • Week from tomorrow (next Tuesday) is a night for seniors at Biggs house

  • Dean’s Report 

    • Hope you’re all putting good things in your shopping cart! There’s no 30 day return period! 

    • Two changes to remember for upper class students that is applicable to all! 

      • L1/L2 languages can be for credit as long as L3 etc. is for a grade

      • Credit/D/fail deadline is until the midterm of the course, but once you declare it cannot be undone! 

    • Deadlines are listed in Dean Lafargue’s email and will appear here next week! 

    • #hotdeansummer is retired (read Dean Lafargue’s Notes from the Dean if you want context)

  • SAC

    • Helping to plan Tyng fling

    • Had a very successful Amigos night and will have another soon! 

    • In the beginning stages for SY Fall Formal (full name TBD). Taking location requests! 

      • POI: Are we still banned from Harvest? / Can we return?

        • POI: Yes, we are still banned 

      • POI: Jack’s?

        • People seem very enthused. There was a hum of approval

  • Community Service 

    • Yale is starting a college wide fellow-outreach program! We’re now partnered with Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) in New Haven. 

      • Mary will have updates after next week about how to get involved with the partnership! 

  • By-Laws

    • Did you know: In the event of an executive committee member’s resignation, there’s a line of succession in which each member steps up and takes the vacated role. A special election would then take place to fill the empty role

  • Media

  • Fischer Report

    • Named in honor of a former senior Daniel Fischer

    • Summarized Sam’s message with: Don’t break things! And if you do report it by looking up Yale Facilities Request.

      • Mark as urgent online if you want it to get done or call the emergency number

    • Earlier today a door handle broke in entryway J, and you couldn’exit. Got fixed in 20!

    • POI from Prof Near

      • Renovation planned for this upcoming summer! 

        • Of the dining hall. The plan is ~mysterious,~ but Prof Near is making sure the servery won’t be redesigned like new colleges or Silliman.

        • Request to reboot the Saybrary with new furniture and lighting and of the Squiche with new tiling

      • POI: Possible to increase ventilation in the Squiche? Good q!

      • Email any other ideas to Prof Near soon because negotiations are beginning with the admin in the next few weeks

  • SayQueer

    • Jaye and Kathya are the heads this year! It’s an LGBTQ affinity group for SY that has events like brunches!

  • Slaydies

    • Nat no longer claims the position, and Kaseygraduated (“Whose fault is that? - Nat)

    • If any questions, don’t ask Nat. Called a “potentially” (definitely) open position. 

    • General POI: If interested in any committees (including first-years!), please go to the heads of them after. There’s high turnover (will be shown throughout). 

      • POI: Alex got involved as a first-year, and it connected him with the upperclassmen and was a great way to learn about SY! 

    • POI (for first years and sophomores): Slaydies was popping off once upon a time. Brought in a woman from the first class of coeducation and had tea. This is the 50/150 celebration year, so no better time to get involved with Slaydies! 

  • BlackBrook

    • Black student affinity group at Yale that officially started last year! 

    • Run by John, but if you want to take over, please contact him because he is busy. 

  • College Seminar

    • Good for now! In the works 

  • Dining hall

    • Huge applause for Joey. Dining hall rep. Senior. Man of the ppl

    • Not too much news besides the aforementioned renovation

    • If you have constructive feedback or something you want to see. Let him know to get it resolved / implemented!

    • POI: Cups are on the wrong side. Got moved back.

      • Previously there was a petition for this to get resolved. Will probs have to do it again.

    • POI: New management team within the last 3 weeks. Now have Doug and Heather. Who we like! 

      • So, we might be a lot of things missing (like oil and vinegar) etc. for a bit. Just need to vocalize to someone. Doug always has chef outfit. Heather has business fit. Can also tell Linda and she will get it done. “Will go for the goods.” 

    • POI: Mayonnaise request from Yusuke

    • POI: Night where there was no vegetarian entree for 30 minutes, and they weren’t going to replace it. Please be more conscious of veg options. 

    • POI: Dining hall is lowkey the most important committee in the res college

    • Koomson Report

      • Started before all of our time. A senior female is asked what she ate for dinner in honor of Erica Koomson. 

      • Kathya had chicken, rice, peas,carrots, and potatoes. Made by Jaye

        • Eating GOOD

  • Housing

    • Not worried about this now. No one spearheading. More relevant next semester

  • Sustainability

    • Alex again! Be sustainable! “Hope everyone had a very sustainable summer.”

    • Looking for a replacement

    • POI: Perhaps propose to Micah that Danielle act as the head of this committee

  • IMs

    • Correction from before. This is actually the most important committee.

    • Sushi study break on Wednesday at 9:30 in the dining hall! Sign up there for IMS and meet your IM secretaries!

    • Kicking off next Monday! 

    • POI: Are there captains this year or are the IM secs captains?

  • Saybrew

    • Sam Rimm-Kauffman is the SY Brew King

      • POI: this is a real title

    • Brew beer, other alcoholic, and non alcoholic bevs that involve fermentation to serve at SY events

    • Always looking for new members! Don’t need to be 21! Good way to meet new ppl and have fun! Pretty low commitment (a couple of hours 4 times/yr) and there are snacks! 

    • Game of Cones Neopolitan Porter coming up for Oktoberfest and second batch of alcoholic cider (gluten free)

      • Happening upcoming Sunday! There will likely be pizza. Swing by! 

    • To increase members and consumption, if 21+ and show interest, holding events! The first is Sept 21st. Going to Stratford to Two Roads Brewery for Oktoberfest. SY covering travel and ticket expenses (which includes beer)

      • POI: 2 roads is Alex’s fave brewery 

    • Looking to teach someone to take over next year so they won’t have to be self-taught

  • SYHSC

    • Nat again. Knows she’s in charge.Motion once again to be moved up again.

    • A crowd pleaser for new Saybrugians. What happened in SY summer 2007?

        • Yes! Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. It went through Vandy and memorial quadrangle / part of SY. 

        • Ron Howard filmed and an adaptation of hillbilly elegy  in Sy this past summer so SY fame part 2

  • YCC

    • Reps present! Chase and Nick

    • If you have Yale related grievances let them know! 

    • Chase’s projects are improving the menstrual product program (snaps) by putting them in more accessible spaces (currently free and in laundry room and in the bathroom of the HOC office) and expanding good life centers in the residential colleges so you don’t have to walk all the way to Silliman. 

    • Nick is working on expanding fellowship opportunities!

      • YCC elections in this upcoming week and an nfo session tomorrow in LC 102

  • Treasurer’s Report

    • $16,000 to spend in the fund. Whopping amount. Make it rain. 

    • Will send an email shortly (likely tomorrow) about what the budget proposal entails. Send before meeting next Monday to divy it up. Itemize the list. It’s going to be a strict requirement. High bar for acceptance

  • New Business

    • Every year the college office designs and buys gear for purchase, to cash in IM tokens, or to win at fun events. Spearheaded by Sam and Mariel

      • Thinking sweatpants or light quarter zip rain jackets (many adjectives) this year

      • If brilliant ideas for gear, reach out to them or Micah

      • More gear that says Tyng cup champs

    • When working out in the gym, please put your weights back and leave it clean

      • First years are randomly paired with a sophomore-senior Saybrugian, their Saybrook Sibling / SaySib…Saybling? 

        • You can get meals, get to know another Saybrugian, etc. 

      • Roger is on planning this. There’ll be pairing and an ice cream social on the deck soon with a dairy free ice cream option
